Of Friendship

by E. Marie Fera

A hand to hold in times of deep despair
as cries escape your throat; tears stain your cheek.
A soothing voice to quell the daunting scare
of all the worries that the world will wreak.

A laugh alongside yours beneath the snow
in winter, where there’s comfort to be found.
A warm embrace allows your heart to grow;
expanding past parameters and bounds.

A smile to match your own in times of joy;
the feeling mirrored on their face with bliss.
Despite the threats fate ventured to destroy,
it is your side they claim that they would miss.

Someone to share your time with ‘til the end:
in strife or triumph, that would be your friend.
